UPDATE

All Input received will be collated and used to finalise Council's Disability Access and Inclusion Implementation Plan.

BACKGROUND

In 2019, a Disability Working Group was created which recommended measures to ensure that people with disability can access the mainstream supports and services provided by or on behalf of Council; and to suggest strategies to support people with disability.

The Working Group included people living with a disability, carers, business owners, two Elected Members, and Council staff. The group discussed barriers and aspects that work well for people when living with a disability in the Council area.

The group also sought feedback from the community in the form of a survey.

Based on the feedback received, the input from the Working Group and previous requests received by Council, eighteen actions were identified which were outlined in the draft Disability Access and Inclusion Implementation Plan.

The Plan will assist Council and the community in seeking funding and prioritising projects to improve disability access and inclusion in the Council area and result in the provision of accessible and inclusive Council services, facilities and events.

Consultation closed at 9.00am on Monday 2 March 2020.
