Feedback sought on Blackford-Avenue Range-Lucindale fire response
Consultation has concluded.
With more than six months passing after a devastating fire broke out in the Blackford, Avenue Range and Lucindale areas, the Naracoorte Lucindale Council would now like your feedback on its fire recovery efforts.
The fire broke out on Monday 11 January 2021 and burned more than 17,000 hectares of grass and scrub land with a perimeter of some 85kms. It destroyed three homes, numerous sheds, thousands of livestock and also resulted in significant losses of fencing.
Naracoorte Lucindale Council and Kingston District Council coordinated recovery efforts for the fire, which included:
Coordinating community meetings to get information out to the community in an effective and timely manner.
Undertaking tree removal to make our road network safe and accessible as soon as possible.
Extending the opening hours of the Lucindale Council offices to assist with any enquiries about the fire recovery efforts and capture requests for support from the community.
Holding a free hard waste day at the Lucindale Waste Transfer Station to allow landowners and residents from fire-affected properties to dispose of hard waste at no cost.
Collaborating with BlazeAid to establish a camp at Lucindale with volunteers helping landowners by replacing their damaged fences.
Working with key lead agencies and community groups such as the CFS, Lions Club of Lucindale, PIRSA (stock losses and disposal) and more to deliver the services and outcomes required.
Council is seeking feedback from anyone impacted by the fire, whether in a personal, work, voluntary or community capacity.
Please take the time to complete the short survey at the bottom of this page to help Council assess its response to the fire recovery efforts. Hard copies will also be available at the Lucindale and Naracoorte Council offices.
(Please note - this survey is not intended to examine emergency service responses or the State Government’s recovery arrangements.)
The survey will be open until Friday 15 October 2021.
