What is the purpose of a Strategic Plan

The Strategic Plan is the high level document that Council uses when setting its course, and when making decisions.

The strategic plan provides direction and focus for Council and identifies the Council’s objectives for the district.

The Strategic Plan outlines the “who, what and how” to implement Council’s objectives.  The plan provides direction on results that are to be achieved and establishes a course of action for achieving them.

Under section 122 of the Local Government Act council must develop and adopt a strategic management plan.

Why is Council asking for input into the draft Strategic Plan

Community input is being sought as it’s important that the Strategic Plan reflects the views of the community.

It is important to understand that Council cannot achieve the Community Vision on its own.  Many of the strategies contained in the draft plan rely on working in partnership with others.  Council may be able to take a supporting or facilitating role, however we know that the plan cannot be achieved without the hard work, passion and dedication of the community.

The Local Government Act requires that Council must ensure that members of the public are given a reasonable opportunity to be involved in the development and review of its strategic management plan.

How can I be involved in the draft Strategic Plan consultation?

You can be involved by completing the survey, leaving a comment or returning the tear off slip on the flyer that was mailed to households.

Feedback is welcome up to 31 May 2016.
